The original Batmobile, made famous in the iconic 1960′s action / comic book series has sold for $4.2 million. This is one of the original cars from the series, a 1955 Lincoln Futura was sold at the Barrett Jackson auction in Arizona back in January. Adam West would be proud.
The unique auto was owned and customized by George Barris back in the 1960′s and was the perfect accessory for the superhero with all the best gadgets. It had all kinds of cool features and gimmicks, such as parachutes, lasers, smoke screen and even a bat phone. It was obviously well before it’s time. Hence the name “Futura”.
Although the show only ran from 1966 to 1968, it remains one of the most popular shows of it’s kind, and the car always stole the show. From an investment perspective, the specialty and classic car market has gained in returns and these types of vehicles are considered to be a wise investment, as far as collectibles go.
Sure, there were other vehicles that sold at this particular auction, such as a few Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s and such, but (ho-hum) how can anything top the Batmobile? The economy may be crawling along, but apparently there are still plenty of wealthy investors.
The MD-6XP Mid Rise Scissor Lift by BendPak is a hugely popular car lift. As a matter of fact, they are one of our top sellers. And there’s a good reason why too. First of all, it’s portable. You can move it around your shop or garage with ease. It does not have to be bolted to the concrete. It takes up very little floor space. Plus, It offers access to most of the automobile, including the tires, and it’s extremely versatile. It can handle a wide variety of autos. Plus, it is popular not only with the home / do it yourself crowd, but it also is popular with the body shops and brake shops too. The best part? It’s made by BendPak. They are a true leader if the car lift market. And few companies are better at it than them.
The latest customer picture is from David Pinard out of Leigh Acres, Florida. Sure, David uses it for his car, but he has also found another use for it as you can see in the picture below. He also uses it to service his motorcycle and other equipment like lawn tractors as well. Here’s what David said to us about his lift -
“I received my lift last month. I am enjoying it. I thought I would send a photo of it in use. I hope you enjoy, I know that I am”.
You use your imagination and get the best lift for your needs. There are lots of choices.
Check out these pics below. Any gearhead would appreciate viewing these pictures. The first image is of our Dannmar D7 four post lift. This customer purchased 5 of these lifts from us. As you can see, it is being used to store one car over another. That is a typical use for this lift. It is extremely popular with our home hobby customers, or anybody looking to free up some valuable garage floor space. But it’s not just a storage lift. It is also a great service lift. We love any pictures we get with racing cars.
The picture below that is the same customer showing off his BendPak HDSO-14LSX open front, four post alignment lift. This customer has a thriving commercial auto shop and one of the many lifts they purchased from us is this beauty. They also purchased a BendPak two post lift, along with another Bend Pak four post lift. What makes this HDSO-14LSX alignment lift so special? It is a full featured alignment lift by one of the premier lift manufacturers in the business. It offers great features like an open front, meaning there is no cross member, so when the technician wants to get in between the runways to perform work, he won’t need to duck to get there. This means no bumps on the head, as well as a speedier job. We all know this formula – Time = Money.
This customer won a car battery jump starter by Booster Pac just for simply submitting his photos. You can too. We run a drawing of all the photos submitted. All you need to do is email the pictures along with your order number, and perhaps a few comments if you like. You need to have purchased the lift within the last year. You will get one entry per each lift. There is no other criteria. It’s that simple.
Here’s what Leonard Vahsholtz said to us when he submitted his pictures -
“We have Purchased many lifts from ASE, and have been extremely satisfied not only with the quality of the
lifts, but also with the service. On top of that, I know I will always get the best deal”.

Automotive big wigs gather every year for one of the biggest events in industry. Yes the SEMA show in Las Vegas. It takes place at the end of October into the first few days of November every year. On display are all kinds of cool new concept cars, automotive related products as well as informational booths.
One such informational feature was The Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) Lift inspector Certification program. This program aims to teach industry technicians and other professionals the points of inspecting automotive lifts. Auto lifts are required to be inspected at least once a year according to ANSI lift standards. This is the first program of it’s kind that addresses this need. Prior to this, there was no program to reference as a standard. Of course, there could be no better candidate to choose to run a program of this nature, since ALI is the authority on all things pertaining to vehicle lifts.
The program goes through critical aspects of lift inspection, including operational functions, maintenance, as well as repair. It will go over all types of features relating to lifts, like electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, structural and mechanical features. There has been a lack of certified lift inspectors, so this could not have come at a better time. Most inspections have been performed by technicians who may not be qualified to assess the condition of the lift. This program assures that technicians will be qualified in the future to inspect any vehicle lift. ALI will also issue a directory which will list all of the certified technicians.
If you haven’t been inspecting your lifts on a frequent basis, now is the time to start. Check in with ALI to locate a qualified inspector near you.
Have you ever heard an electric car driving down the street? Chances are you haven’t. And that’s the problem. They’re just too darn quiet. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has determined these vehicles to be too quiet, and therefore a hazard to pedestrians. The theory is, if you are walking down the street, and you step off of the sidewalk to cross the road, you won’t hear this thing coming, because they are so super quiet. While we agree these electric and hybrid vehicles are too quiet, we question why pedestrians can’t use their eyes before crossing the road.
The NHTSA wants these vehicles to meet minimum sound standards so that pedestrians can hear them approaching on them. Of particular concern is the visually impaired pedestrians. Many hybrids do utilize carbon burning fuel powered engines at least some of the time, but when they are running on electric only, the same concerns apply.
Lawmakers and regulators are mainly concerned about noise at low speeds. Their concern is for when the automobiles are traveling at low speeds, perhaps 20 MPH or less. The thought is that on busy city streets is where most pedestrian vs car accidents occur. You typically don’t see pedestrians get hit by autos on major highways. Plus, these vehicle begin to make sufficient noise at higher speeds.
If a pedestrian can sense the presence of an auto, they will be better able to detect, and avoid them. Just how these sounds would be produced, and what kind of sound has yet to be determined. But we suspect auto manufacturers will come up with some innovative ideas.
Personally, we would love to hear a car make the roar of a lion. That would be cool. How ’bout you? What kind of noise would you like to hear a car make?
While our customer base is mainly here in the good old USA, we also sell lifts and automotive service equipment to auto shops, home hobbyists, gear heads and weekend warriors all over the world. One location that we enjoy selling to is the beautiful islands of the Bahamas. Actually, the Bahamas were where Columbus first landed in 1492. There are actually more than 3000 islands that make up the Bahamas, but the most densly populated is the island of New Providence. This island features the capitol city of Nassau. Nassau has been a huge tourist attraction for many years.
This week’s customer is German Auto Works from the city of Nassau in the Bahamas. We had the opportunity to visit with them recently. They just opened a brand new auto shop that specializes in European automobiles.
They actually purchased several BendPak Lifts from us. They bought an XPR9 floorplate two post lift, and an XPR10A clearfloor two post lift. The clearfloor model is an asymmetric lift. The asymmetric style of lifts allows you to get your door opened wider after you have parked the car in between the posts. Most technicians prefer this style of lift these days. The added benefit of the BendPak design is that it can also position the auto symmetric as well. This lift is truly the best of both worlds, and is yet another example of why BendPak is the premier name in car lifts. The XPR9 is a floorplate model, meaning that it will fit under shorter ceiling heights.. No matter what you need, BendPak and ASEDeals.com have got you covered. If you have the opportunity to visit Nassau, Bahamas, we highly recommend it.
In an effort to go green, and to help ween American drivers off of middle east oil, Government regulators have required many areas of the country to supply 10 percent ethanol in fuel for several years now. In the early years, this caused problems in engines because they were not manufactured to withstand this fuel. Gaskets and seals could not hold up to the chemical characteristics of it. The treatment forms acids that corrodes rubber, plastics and some metals. Particularly in older vehicles and in small engines that are typically found on lawn mowers, motor boat engines, chain saws, generators and other home yard maintenance appliances. Manufactures of these engines have adapted their engines over the years to allow them to hold up better. Still, performance and reliability has suffered because of this fuel additive.
More recently, the feds in the EPA decided it was a good idea to increase the percent of Ethanol to gasoline mixture to 15%. Some argue this idea may seem wise to government bureaucrats, however it is not practical in the real world application. The EPA itself acknowledges that the fuel will be harmful to engines. Given this acknowledgement, it perplexes many in the industry that they would proceed with this mandate.
Many industry leaders including organisations such as SEMA and others are sponsoring efforts to halt this harmful requirement. They claim that not only are there economic side effects from this change, but there are negative environmental effects as well. Their hopes are that lawmakers will reconsider this new RFS (“Renewable Fuel Standard”). These critics argue that while these Biofuels may be a good idea in theory the marketplace dictates otherwise. This fuel would ruin millions of automobile and small engines. As it stands right now, the only requirement the EPA has come up with is to mandate labeling at the pumps indicating that this fuel will be harmful to many engines. We will keep you posted.
Most people have a pet charity that they favor. You know, a charity that is your preferred cause that you place more importance on above all others. Well, we here at ASEDeals are no different. If you have followed us over the past 16 years, you would know that over the past 10 years or so, we have latched on to Homes For Our Troops.
Homes For Our Troops is near and dear to our hearts because they construct specially adapted houses for disabled American veterans coming home from Afghanistan and Iraq. Plus, it is rated as a four star charity from Charity Navigator. They rate charities based on various factors, such as what percentage of their funding goes toward the actual cause vs how much goes toward administrative and marketing causes.
We always ask our customers, readers and followers on Facebook and Linkdin to consider this very worthy cause when deciding on where to donate some funds that they may have available for charitable purposes. Home For Our Troops just recently completed seven new houses this month (December, 2012).

Check out this sweet ride on our BendPak XPR9 two post lift. This picture was send in to us by a customer.
The customer is Susan Ashborn from Bristol, CT. She purchased this lift from us recently and send in some photos to us to show off her lift and her beautiful car. This is what people do. They like to share images for their pet project cars along with one of our car lifts.
The XPR-9 two post lift is a floorplate style hoist. Every two post lift has equalizer cables as well as hydraulic lines that must run across from one column to the other. They need to place them in one of two locations, either along the floor, under a plate of steel, (hence the term “Floorplate”) or at the top. When they run at the top, they are called clear floor lifts.
Clear floor lifts typically stand at about 12 feet tall, so you would need to have adequate ceiling height. If you don’t, you would need to get the floorplate model. The floor plate sysle lifts are made for shops with ceilings that are too low for the clear floor lifts. Most folks tend to prefer the clearfloor lifts provided they have enough ceiling height. They prefer a clearfloor model because the floor plate acts like a speed bump. It make it difficult to roll items across the floor underneath the lift. Things like transmission jacks, tool carts, oil drains, etc. are difficult to get over the plate. It still can be done. The plate is only 1.5″ high in most cases, and it is ramped up on each end. But it is more difficult. Another key difference is that the clearfloor 2 post lift has a shut off bar at the top. The switch gets activated when the roof of the car hits it. Of course, a floor plate model does not have a shut off bar at the top, so the user must monitor the vehicle as it’s being raised to make sure it doesn’t go into the ceiling above.
After this brief two post lift tutorial, you hopefully have a better understanding of the two different styles. There are many other factors involved in choosing a twio post lift. You can find them in other past posts on this blog.
It’s that time of year. Yes, the Holidays bring on all kinds of sales as consumers are searching for bargains. That’s what they’ve been conditioned to do each year. Many shoppers simply refuse to purchase anything unless it is discounted 20 to 50 percent.
Well, the clothing industry may operate on 40 % margins, but we can assure you that the automotive equipment industry does not. Our margins are much slimmer. If any company is able to discount their products by 40 percent at any given time, then that means they were over charging you in the first place. Who wants to deal with a company that regularly overcharges you by 30 percent?
Our prices are normally already steeply discounted, and our average margins are at about 10 %. That doesn’t mean we don’t offer discounts and sales. Each month, we have new promotions that offer discounts well below our normal pricing. These sales are meant to draw in new customers who have never purchased from us before. Once you have purchased from us, we find that you’ll keep coming back. This is because we offer some top level customer service, along with knowledge of the products and industry. Plus, we’re not going to try to up-sell you. We are going to fit you with the product that is right for your application, even if it costs less.
But the main point of this post is to remind you, (or perhaps warn you) that some of our prices will be going up soon. Come January 1st, many manufacturers we carry increase their prices. This is typical of many manufacturers. This is typically the time of year when they adjust their prices due to market conditions. The increases won’t be major. And they won’t be across the board. But there will be some minor increases. Some sales are also set to end at that time as well, particularly on some auto lifts and tire changers.
So if you’ve been dawdling, now is the time to get going. There are only a couple of weeks remaining. Don’t miss out.
