TRUCK-IT™ will quickly hook up to the air brake system and pressurize it, revealing most air line leaks in a matter of minutes. HOW DOES IT WORK? With the Pressure Regulator wound all the way OFF and the Control Lever in the LOAD position, the technician may start the fog flow by turning the Pressure Regulator clockwise…. The Air Flow Gauge shows the air flowing and the fog Pressure Gauge indicates the targeted system pressure.The system will be pressurized to the indicated pressure when the Air Flow Gauge ball comes to a rest on its seat. The Control Lever can then be moved to the LOCK position, which locks the indicated fog pressure in the system. A system with no leak will cause the pressure gauge to stay steady. Downward movement of the pressure gauge needle, indicates a leak is present.

LOCATING A LEAK Once the air pressure needle moves downward, the Technician can begin looking for the leak. Using the White Light the Technician will be able to find a large leak quickly…. WHY TRUCK-IT™ IS DIFFERENT If the leak is not immediately apparent, observe the pressure gauge dropping. The fog generated by TRUCK-IT™ is capable of “wisping” through very small leaks at “ZERO” pressure. Allow the pressure to drop all the way down, while observing the system with the white light. If, when the system has been at zero for 5 minutes the leak has not been spotted, quickly move the Control Lever to the LOAD position for about 10 seconds, then back to the LOCK position and repeat the process. Using this technique, most leaks will be located.

WHEN TO BLEED THE SYSTEM It is quite possible that the system was brought up to test pressure, and fog did not reach all areas of the system. Once the initial test phase is complete, it may be necessary to be sure that fog is spread throughout the system. With the system at zero and the Control Lever in the LOCK position, open the closest system drain cock, then move the Control Lever to the LOAD position until fog is flowing freely from the drain. Move the Control Lever back to the LOCK position, close the open drain cock and open the next closest drain cock. Repeat until fog is bled through the entire system, then start to pressurize it by moving the Control Lever to the LOAD position, until the desired test pressure is reached.

REALLY STUBBORN LEAKS Some leaks are so small, it may not be worth the time required to find them using traditional methods. The bright reflective fog will allow the Technician to locate even the smallest leaks without wasting precious time. Simply, hook TRUCK-IT™ up to the system, bleed it once then pressurize it to 90-100psi. Leave the Control Lever in the LOAD position for this test. In the LOAD position, pressurized fog will remain at the “dialed-in” pressure. Since this is an extremely small leak, actual flow will also be extremely small.

Depending on the size and/or nature of the leak, the reflective fog will accumulate in the area of the leak. This could take anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours. The system may be left unattended for this period and the Technician can go about other jobs, checking in on TRUCK-IT from time to time. In many cases, the fog will be observed as tiny drops of light moving around in the air, close to the leak.
