ArchivesBendPak Lifts | Car Lift Blog
If you’re a home / hobby consumer looking for a premium quality car lift, but want something affordable, you can’t go wrong with the BendPak HD-9 lifts. They were made with the home user in mind, but are built to the same exacting standards as the popular 14,000 lb. capacity models all the way up to their 40,000 lb. truck hoists. They provide all of the same convenience and safety features, as well as the same great warranty.
We know there are many choices when it comes to four post lifts. There are many poor quality options, some good choices and then there are only a select few premium choices. If you’re the type of individual that demands the best, but at a reasonable price, then Bend Pak is for you. What does BendPak offer that these other manufacturer’s don’t? When you research into the features and specifications of a BendPak HD-9 lift, you’ll see many of the same features that you would find on the typical moderate grade car hoist. But when you dig a little deeper, you’ll soon find a vast list of features that allow it to rise above the rest.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the HD-9 series of 4 post lifts are ALI Certified. This is a very significant badge of honor. This certification is from an independent authority for automotive lift safety and quality requirements. Most lifts never achieve this prestigious award. And ALI is the only organized body that is recognized for it’s certification process. If an auto lift manufacturer tells you that their hoist is certified by someone other than ALI, move on. Simply put, nobody else has the clout of ALI.
Beyond that, you’ll find safety features that go well beyond the normal and typical features found on most models out there. For instance, the air solenoid safety release feature provides the most reliable method for disengagement of the safety mechanism. The typical mechanical safety release system found on most car enthusiast 4 post lifts are more prone to get stuck. If this were to happen on 1 column, there is a potential for the lift’s runways to become out-of-level, and if this happens while the user is not paying close attention, the lift would likely either collapse, of the vehicle could possibly slide down and fall off the rack.
Another great safety feature is the slack cable safety system. Every 4 post lift on the market has a locking safety system. This keeps the runways resting on the locking device instead of the hydraulic system. But few lifts, especially in the home market, offer a slack cable safety. This is typically found on only premium commercial grade lifts. This extra safety measure instantly and automatically engages if the cables break during the raising or lowering process while the runways are not resting on the safety locks.
Convenience & Longevity
BendPak HD-9 lifts also offer a vast list of features designed to add longevity to the hoist and to make your life easier. One of those features is the laddered safety locking system. Have an un-level floor? Instead of using the common stepped safety system that most lifts utilize, BendPak lifts use this reliable safety system that can adjust to allow you to compensate for low or high points in your floor. This can also be considered yet another safety feature, because if your lift isn’t level, this can also be a safety hazard. Beyond that, BendPak has built their HD-9 series lifts with some innovative features that allow the components to last longer, allowing you to raise vehicles without trouble, and with little down-time. For instance, the increased the diameter of the cable pulleys / sheaves that all of the lifting cables run on. What’s the significance of this? Simply put, it extends the life of the cables by up to double the typical 4 post lift.

We notified you on previous posts that several of our manufacturers were having price increases starting April 1st. This is just a friendly reminder that this Thursday, March 31st is your last chance to get in at 1st quarter pricing. We feel confident you won’t see these prices ever again. Every single manufacturer we carry has been increasing prices lately, or has a price increase coming soon.
The three manufacturers that have price increases on April 1st are – BendPak, Dannmar and Thermal Dynamics.
BendPak Lifts are a staple in our product lineup. They are tough to beat when it comes to quality, features and price. Plus they have one of the widest selections of varieties we’ve ever seen.
Dannmar makes some pretty darn good lifts too. Their clearfloor two post lifts just got ALI Certified, so that’s an exciting new development.
Thermal Dynamics is one of the largest and best welder and plasma cutter manufacturers. Top quality, some units made in USA and some made in Italy.
Don’t delay. Prices will never be at these levels again.

Here is a brief outline of why BendPak Two Post Lifts are superior to most other two post lifts out there on the market today.
Our Bend Pak Lifts are a smart choice for those who want a top-of-the-line automotive lift, but don’t want to pay top-of-the-line prices.
Bend Pak is one of America’s largest car lift manufacturers and produces some of the lowest price ALI & ETL approved two post lifts in the industry. They’re unrivaled when it comes to quality, workmanship, and durability. BP has been around for over 40 years, and we have been carrying them for over 14 years.
They are ALI Certified, which means they meet very strict quality and safety standards, and that they were tested not just by anybody, but by the recognized authority on the subject, the Automotive Lift Institute. Most lifts are not ALI Certified.
They have top-of-the-line features like triple telescoping arms, (10,000 lb front arms only, and 12,000 lb. all 4 arms). These arms allow you to get at difficult to reach jacking points that you may not be able to get at with the standard two stage arms that most lifts have.
They have larger equalizer cable pulleys that allow the equalizer cables to last twice as long. Plus the pulleys have three times the bearing surface area, which makes them last three times as long.
They have better arm restraints, and are just heavier duty, (they weigh several hundred pounds more than the typical two post lift).
They also have the preferred direct-drive lifting system, (clearfloor models) that is not only safer than cable or chain drive, but will save you money in the long run on expensive wear parts like cables, chains and pulleys.
They have taller lift carriages, (53″) which means less stress on the columns.
The cylinders operate on a lower pressure, which means you won’t need to change the seals as frequently.
They also have a superior warranty, which is 5 years on structure, one year on power unit and one year of on-site service, so if you have a warranty issue that cannot be resolved by simply troubleshooting by phone, sending you out the parts and talking you through installing them, they will send somebody out on-site if necessary.
The asymmetric models can also position the vehicle symmetrically as well, so you get the best of both worlds. This can be handy in those situations where a certain vehicle (typically longer, or rear-heavy vehicles) don’t balance out the well asymmetrically, and you need to move the vehicle forward more to help balance it out.
You simply won’t find a better quality Two Post Lift at a lower price – period.
This post was created to compare the BendPak HD9 series of Four Post Lift vs the Direct Lift Pro Park 8 four post lift. Some lift manufacturers may try to imitate BendPak’s quality and engineering, but they cannot duplicate it. That is why BendPak came out with a comparison between their HD9 lift, vs the Direct Lift four post lift.
BendPak came out with their HD9 lifts many years ago back when everybody started copying their very popular previous four post home / hobbyist lift, the PF7000ST. At that time, the design was very popular , and many companies began copying that popular design, so BendPak decided to differentiate themselves from the pack by coming out with a far superior design at a reasonable price. Basically, they just scaled down their 14000 lb. commercial quality lifts, and made them for the home / hobbyist. It was a stroke of genius. It was also a huge success. Nobody on the market had a commercial quality home hobby lift. It is ALI Certified, something never before done by a lift manufacturer. It has dual safeties, and a superior ladder safety system, and many other features of a commercial ALI Certified lift.
Direct Lift came out with their ProPark 8 four post lift that integrated some of the features of the BendPak HD9 auto lifts, but not every feature. They might appear similar at first glance, but when you delve a little deeper, you’ll find some very significant differences. Case in point, one of the first things you’ll notice is that the posts are significantly larger, which helps explain the heavier duty capacity of 9,000 lbs. vs 8,000 lbs.
Some more differences that will be more evident just by looking is some of the exposed exterior hardware that is on the Direct Lift. BendPak Lifts have a single push button pneumatic lock system. Direct Lifts have clumsy, multi-rod, multi-adjustment, manually operated locks using a handle you need to hold down during the full decent.
The Direct Lift cables are not neatly routed within the structure of the lift. BendPak’s cables are, leading to a neater, cleaner appearance.
BendPak runways feature a separate welded on rail assembly (for the jacks and trays) that also acts as a stiffener helping to prevent the runways from sagging when loaded.
Futher differences require a closer look, but are no less important.
The Direct Lift ProPark 8 Plus utilizes a “pulley” system (2 to 1 lifting) as opposed to a direct‐pull set‐up like BendPak’s HD‐9 Lifts (1 to 1 lifting). BendPak’s direct design allows the four independent cables to be attached directly to the cylinder pull block. The four lifting cables on the Direct Lift pulley design are attached to a single lifting cable that is tethered from the end of the cylinder pulley. This single cable carries the entire load during raising or lowering operation.
BendPak cable sheaves have a significantly larger diameter. This means the lifting cables will have a much longer life expectancy and are much less likely to fail.
BendPak approach ramps have rollers on the bottom so your floors don’t get marred when you raise and lower the lift.
BendPak cable sheaves are wider and have over 3 times the bearing (bronze bushing) surface area for longer life.
The BendPak HD9 Car Lift has real no skid grit on the runways instead of diamond plate. Although diamond plate has a certain desired cosmetic appearance, it does little for skid resistance when the runways are wet or oily.
The ProPark 8 Plus pulley system requires a larger diameter cylinder and much higher working pressure because it requires twice the hydraulic pressure as a direct pull setup.
The BendPak cable block features anti rotation outriggers that prevent rotation caused by cylinder movement and keeps perfect alignment of the lifting cables.
Finally, BendPak’s warranty includes one year of labor in addition to five years structure and one year parts warranty. Direct Lift does not include labor on their standard warranty.
As you can see, this puts to rest any doubt that BendPak HD9 4 Post Lifts are superior to the Direct Lift Pro Park 8 Lift. You can view further details on our web site, including many supporting images.
Some people want options. Auto shop owners and home hobbyists who purchase our BendPak Lifts will ask for all kinds of options / accessories. Sometimes it’s truck adapters for their two post lifts, (which come standard on all Bend Pak Lifts). Other times, a home hobbyist will purchase the optional caster kit for their four post lift, so they can roll it around their shop and make it a portable lift.
Most customers are happy with the standard shade of blue that Bend Pak offers for their lifts. But every so often, we get special requests from customers for an alternate color. BendPak is able to accommodate these customers for a reasonable fee. The basic alternatives offered are the traditional black and red. Another option is yellow. These colors come at two different options when it comes to time frame. If you are in no hurry, and would like to save a buck or two, the “long term” time frame option price is very reasonable and typically takes 60 to 90 days to become available. The fee could run from $130 to $175 for a 10,000 lb. two post lift. If you cannot wait that long, you can always go for the “expedited” rate, which runs over $400 for the same type of lift. This should be ready to ship out in a couple of weeks typically. If you desire a custom color, give us a call at 800-229-6218 and we’ll quote you on that.
No matter what you need, we’re here to make you happy.
We notified you previously that BendPak was having a major price increase beginning on July 1st.
This is just a reminder that that you have only a few more days to take advantage of the current low prices. Many models will be going up a significant amount. Don’t wait. If you were considering a Car lift, a tire changer, spray wash cabinet or air compressor, now is the time. June 30th is your last day to get in. We carry several different Car Lift manufacturers. Forward, Challenger, Dannmar and BendPak. The best lifts by far are our BendPak Two Post Lifts for many reasons. One of those reasons is the triple telescoping arms. Another reason is that they are ALI certified. Yet another reason is the variety of options available for them. For instance, the pads that touch the vehicle frame. BendPak Lifts come standard with a rectangular steel pad with a rubber slip-on pad over it. The rubber is there to protect the vehicle from scratches underneath to avoid potential for corrosion. The rubber slip-on pad is replaceable.
BendPak also offers other options. They offer a steel lift pad option. This steel lift pad is a round pad that is concave and cupped like a traditional floor jack saddle. These steel lift pads are popular with customers who want a pad that won’t allow slippage when lifting a surface that is rounded, (like an axle).
Then they have a Frame Cradle Adapter Pad. The frame cradle adapter pad is a rectangular pad that is bent up at a 90 degree angle on two sides. The purpose of this style is similar to the steel lift pad. The frame cradle adapter also has a rubber pad in the center to protect the vehicle underside.
Finally, they offer a screw pad adapter kit. This has infinitely adjustable height adapters for those customers who prefer precision when it comes to the height of the adapter.
There are a plethora of choices on the market these days when it comes to choosing an Automotive Lift. Two post lifts, four post lifts, scissor lifts, low rise lifts, mid rise lifts, pit lifts, mobile column lifts, alignment lifts and more.
This article is not going to touch on the different types of lifts. It is going to describe the three different manufacturers that we currently carry.
Top of the list is our BendPak Lifts. BendPak is one of the premier car lift manufacturers in the industry with over 40 years in the business. Most of their two post lifts and four post lifts are ALI Certified. ALI is the Automotive Lift Institute. They are the recognized authority on lift quality and safety standards.
BendPak Lifts are top-of-the-line all the way. They have the best features, the best warranty, the best quality components. Features such as dual safeties on their four post lifts and triple telescoping arms on most of their two post lifts are what set them apart from other manufacturers.
The BendPak warranty for their two post and four post lifts is five years on structure, one year on power unit and wear parts, and one year of on-site service. So if there is a warranty issue that can’t be resolved by phone, a technician
We also carry Dannmar two post lifts and four post lifts. We have been carrying them for about eight years now and are very pleased with the feedback on them. They hold up well over time and parts are readily available. The best way to describe the Dannmar Lifts would be to designate them a good quality mid-grade lift. Not top-of-the-line, not economy lift, but mid grade.
Next, we carry Tuxedo Lifts. These lifts are also another good mid-grade manufacturer. Although they do have a couple of economy models for those customers who are on a budget, but want a good, reliable auto lift. They also even have one two post lift model that is ALI Certified. They have a wide selection of models, including 8 two post lifts, over a dozen four post lifts and even a scissor alignment lift.
While the quality may vary on these lifts, they all have one thing in common. They are all reliable, durable lifts by quality manufacturers and we have been carrying them all for over 7 years, which means they are not some fly-by-night outfit that will disappear the days after your purchase.
